We at Delta Dental of Idaho know how financially tough it is for many right now; it can be especially tough for older adults 60 years of age or older. We are here to help. As a non-profit organization, one of our primary goals is for access to dental care to be available to all Idahoans. If you are at least 60 years of age, and meet certain low-income requirements, our GrinWell for You program will not only provide you with dental care, but at no cost to you.
Why is dental care important?
As we get older, our risk for oral health problems increases. These can include:
- Medication, cancer treatment, and certain diseases that can cause dry mouth. A dry mouth can increase bacteria in the mouth, resulting in tooth decay.
- Gum disease is often a problem for older adults, and can be worsened by certain medications, poor fitting bridges or dentures and diseases like diabetes.
- If you experience ailments like arthritis, it can be very difficult to hold a toothbrush. This can affect your ability to properly brush and floss your teeth to keep bacteria and plaque at bay.
These are some of many reasons it’s important to take care of your teeth as you age, as oral health is connected to overall health.
Our GrinWell for You is now accepting applications
Our GrinWell for You program is now taking applications for any low-income Idahoan over the age of 60, provided you and your household income meet certain requirements. Please see such requirements below:
A “household” is defined as you, your spouse, and any dependents living with you.
You might be asking yourself, “What’s the catch?” Provided you have proof of your income, are 60 years of age or older, and can travel to a dental office within 60 days of acceptance, there is no catch! There are no copays, no deductibles, and no hidden fees. This $1,250 per year program is completely free.
What if I don’t meet the criteria?
There are other options for older adults who don’t meet the age or income requirements of our GrinWell for You program. See below for a few of these options:
Dental Care for Senior Citizens with Medicare:
Traditional Medicare plans do not cover routine dental care. They only cover dental care if the dental services are required to protect general health. Medicare Advantage plans, or Medicare private health care plans, may provide additional coverage—such as dental.
Low-Income Dental Care for Senior Citizens
Seniors with limited income have several options:
- Reduced-cost or free clinics can be found here. Enter your zip code to find a clinic near you.
- Donated dental services
- Dental schools
