With Veteran’s Day coming, we’d like to thank all servicemen and women for your dedication to our country. The courage and generosity of our veterans is an inspiration to us all.
If you’re a senior, it’s now more important than ever to properly care for your teeth and gums. You can keep your smile healthy no matter what your age.
Start by seeing your dentist regularly. Seniors – like children – are at high risk of tooth decay, according to the Academy of General Dentistry. Check in with your dentist if you any of these symptoms: [bulletlist]
- Bleeding gums that pull away from your teeth
- Red or white patches on your tongue, gums or the floor of your mouth
- Mouth sores that don’t heal
- Loose teeth that are separating from your gums
- Persistent mouth or jaw pain

If you have dentures, keep them clean and free of food particles. Brush them daily. Be sure to treat dentures like you would your regular teeth!
Good attention to dental care is also very important if you have dental implants. Dental implants are artificial teeth that replace those that have been lost or pulled.
When it comes to dental health, remember to continue the good oral habits you’ve learned over a lifetime – brush and floss your teeth daily, eat a balanced diet, drink fluoridated water and see your dentist regularly.
We appreciate everything you’ve done for us and our country. We’ll be thinking of all our veterans this November 11.
